Every Painting Has More Than One Story
Every painting has at least two stories.
The first is the story we can see: the colors, shapes, people and places on the surface.
The second is often invisible.
It might be the story of why the artist created it, what was happening in their life or the person who inspired it. It might be the story of the patient who stopped in front of it every week during treatment or the nurse who passed it each morning before beginning another long shift.
ActiveART helps make those invisible stories visible.
When someone scans a painting, they can hear the story behind it directly through a short video. The experience may begin with the artist, but it does not have to end there. Art can invite patients, families, staff, donors and entire communities to remember, respond and share stories of their own.
That is why the “active” part of ActiveART matters.
The viewer is no longer simply looking at something hanging on a wall. They are participating in a conversation.
In healthcare, where people can feel separated from their everyday lives and identities, that kind of connection can be especially meaningful. A story can remind someone of home, make them laugh or simply help them feel less alone for a few minutes.
The painting may remain still.
But the stories surrounding it are alive.
